dance show year round in "Teatro Degollado". If you're looking
for a very close experience with Mexican festivities "Carnival" is
probably the most popular celebration in this area. This take place
normally during the months of Feb or March. Exactly 7 weeks before
Easter. Music, folkloric dances (from all over the world), rodeo and
more are the perfect frame for these religious festivities. The
foreign community is working shoulder to shoulder with local and
municipal government to help all kind of charities including
scholarships, social works and medical emergencies.
Chapala Lake area is beautiful year round.
Warm nights in Summer and
cool mornings in winter but still very nice and inviting to watch the
dawn or dusk sipping a beer or a coup of coffee. The magnificent
scenery of a mountain covered by the purple to deep red colors offers
a one of a kind spectacle. Mexican people is friendly through out
Mexico but that is twice as good in Lakeside.
Ajijic is also
house of Chili Cook off for Jalisco Red and green chili. This
contest takes place, normally, middle of February. The Mexican
calendar offers also the opportunity to enjoy various other
civic festivities like "5 de Mayo", day of famous Puebla's battle that
the French Army lost against Mexicans back in 1862. "16 of September"
as people call it: "Día de la independencia" for Independence day. No
forgetting the most colorful and happiest of the parades in Mexico,
the popular "20 of November Parade" in which Mexico celebrates the
beginning of the Mexican Revolution back in 1910. It is amazing the
combinations of culture, arts, music, traditional costumes, foods and
much more, that you cannot stop pulling the trigger of your camera
because everywhere you look you have a great post card ready to be
sent..
Don't forget that Jalisco
is the international house of Mariachi's music probably the most
famous representation of Mexico all over the world. The "charros" and
their colorful cowboys suits are the perfect complement for this
polychromic picture of a beautiful little village in southern Mexico.
If you ever go to a
"fiesta", let's say a wedding, a birthday party, an anniversary, etc.
be prepare for a real show. Mexican people is always ready to sing
their mariachi songs or dance their music. People is highly proud of
it and is not strange to see a very Mexican wedding. But also
you can see a very cosmopolitan party where the fun never stops. On
the dance floor you may be dancing shoulder to shoulder with an
artist, let say a painter or a writer, a well known musician or even a
professional sport man.
Ajijic/Chapala is also famous for
the wide variety of artist in the music field. For instance you have
seen Pedro Rey one of the famous mariachi directors in Mexico. He has
shared microphones with Linda Ronstadt, Vicente Fernandez or Juan
Gabriel.
